From Brian and Donna:

“Brian and Donna Almquist of Greenbelt Advocates for Environmental and Social Justice will have a table at the annual Green Man Festival in historic Greenbelt Maryland. We encourage all those who oppose the SCMaglev train project to come to our table and sign a letter to let your elected officials know that you oppose this project.

We will have information at our table on the time line and status of the project and maps showing the routes under consideration. We need all Marylanders who oppose this train project to come sign a letter. If you have already signed a letter, we will have new letters that address the recent Final Alternatives Report so you will have an opportunity to speak out again. All letters are collected and sent by Greenbelt Advocates to elected officials.

The festival is held on Saturday, May 11th from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, May 12th from 11am to 5pm. For festival directions check out their website at www.greenmanfestival.org

What Can You Do

A grassroots group of citizens against this proposed Super Conducting Magnetic Levitation (SCMaglev) train project between Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC

The project has cleared the scoping hurdle and an Environmental Impact Study is currently underway. Baltimore Washington Rapid Rail (BWRR) has stated that construction could start as early as 2019 if the study proceeds as scheduled.  NOW is the time to make your voice heard so that we can stop this project before it gets any further.  Join Us. Why  SCMaglev is a Concern

Questions remain unanswered. Despite the claims being made of the SCMaglev between Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC, there may never be economic or jobs benefit  for the local communities, counties or the state of Maryland. There are few, if any, direct economic benefits to those who live along the proposed routes.  There are no improvements to commuter traffic congestion (automobile or rail).  There will be disruptions and potential dislocations of properties in established communities.  There is the possibility of distrubing and irreparably harming historic sites, recreational areas, and open spaces.  There is also the possible adverse environmental impact.
